CTY online
Our school is honored to be among 5 schools in former Czechoslovakia that received an offer from the American Fund for Czech and Slovak Leadership Studies in order to cooperate with The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.
We have the opportunity to take part in a program that aims to help talented Czech and Slovak high school students to get accepted to prestigious US universities. The program enables students to learn material through online courses. There are 8 courses offered, each of a different topic – math, chemistry, biology, physics, grammar and essay writing – from which each student can choose one. The duration of the courses varies from 3 to 9 months. Communication between students and teachers is in English and takes place online. Via e-mail, students receive assignments, study materials and lecture videos, and then send their completed assignments and exams back to the teacher. Any issues or questions the students have are elaborated upon with the teacher in Whiteboard Sessions. Students learn at their own pace, at any time and any place – all they need is internet access.
The program is in its pilot stage and is intended for students with 2-3 years before their final exams and graduation. It was created for talented, motivated students that seek challenges and aren’t afraid of obstacles – students that are persistent and want to learn.
You can learn more about the program and its requirements from Ms. Andrea Quam andquam@yahoo.com our school’s program coordinator, or at http://www.cty.jhu.edu and http://www.afcsls.org .
